Our Story

Tony was born on 'the beautiful island' of Sardinia, but grew up in Verona - 'the home of amazing wine'.However, he has lived in Chapel Allerton for more than a decade and run the salumeria at 138 Harrogate Road along with his mum, who has also moved to Leeds to cook up fresh food in the traditional Italian style to customers."My mum is not a chef," he said. "She cooks as a mum”.  The house hosted an Ilkley-born artist and writer Anthony Earnshaw, who died in 2001 at the age of 76, described as an “anarchist of distinction” with a lively individualism and charismatic style. As his success grew, he published novels which became cult classics, with works at galleries such as The Tate, Cartwright Hall, and Leeds City Art Gallery. The property was taken on by Deliziosa founder Tony Salaris in 2017, who set about a painstaking conversion to create the now popular Italian Restaurant and Deli where the work hangs.“Chapel Allerton was so different in the late 1960s,” recalls Mrs Earnshaw. “It was a place where creative people swarmed. The flat was, for me, such an artist’s dream. For everybody else it was cold, but it was very cheap rent and that was the main thing.” Several years after his adventure in the UK, Tony's dream  was to create a place like Deliziosa! And now, this dream came true, and ready to make his guests dream too with great food and company, in perfect harmony with the Italian dolce vita!

Restoring Deliziosa

Deliziosa has been restored very carefully while maintaining the original structure and décor. Many people are not aware that it is one of the oldest buildings in Chapel Allerton! During the restoration works, Tony tried to preserve the atmosphere and richness of this important place. And here it is, this great little jewel in the heart of Chapel Allerton!
